However as you can imagine a site like PatternReview.com takes a lot of time to manage, support and operate. Reviews - One of the largest parts of PatternReview.com are the reviews for Patterns, Notions, Sewing Stores, Sewing Websites, Sewing Machines, Sergers, Sewing books, Magazines, Videos and Sewing Expos & Classes. Currently there are more than 113,161 reviews. Many reviews also include photographs to show what completed projects look like. Reviews contain links to the manufacturer/designers website so that product details can be seen. Members discuss their own and the reviewers experiences by adding comments for each review as well as providing feedback on the quality of the review. Currently there are more than 755,174 comments across all the reviews. Reviews can be accessed for free; however a login is required to access "archived" reviews which were written more than 6 months ago.

Review Requests - If PatternReview.com members are interested in buying a pattern but are not sure about the difficulty or the quality of the pattern they are able to ask other members who may have used that pattern to write a review by creating a review request. Currently there are almost 600 review requests on PatternReview.com. New review requests generally get answered within days.

Sewing Contests - Large stashes are a sewers bane! To encourage sewers to use their stashes PatternReview.com holds regular stash contests. These contests generally have themes - for instance currently there are two contests running - Sewing for Charity and the Romantic Outfit contest. Contestants who sew the most number of clothes receive an award. The awards are either provided by sponsors or are distributed based upon a small entry fee which is taken from all participants.

Wish List - Members can maintain a list of all the patterns, books, sewing machines, sergers, notions they would like to buy. This can be easily done by them while they are reading an interesting review. Their wish lists are also linked to the reviews so that they can read all the reviews before they finally make their purchase. Additionally if while reading an interesting store or web site review, members feel they want to check it out later, that can be added to their wish list as well.

Pattern Catalogs - Members can maintain a list of all the patterns they currently own. This list can be easily printed in order to be taken to the store or can be used to access the linked reviews in order before initiating a project. Friends of PR members can have an unlimited number of patterns in their Pattern Catalogs whereas other members are limited to 20 patterns in their Pattern Catalogs.
