Seen a maxi on a runway you like? Or perhaps you just love the way it flows when you walk. The great news is that they're a breeze to sew.

Most of the detailed work is in the bodice unless you pick a pattern with ruffles on the skirt, like Burda 7682.

Fabric
You'll need a lot of fabric. You'll probably use a stretch knit but CraftAddict says you shouldn't go with too stretchy a fabric,

because the weight will pull down the neckline (the alternative is stabilizing the
neckline.) Popular fabrics for the maxi are Cotton-Lycra Knit, Rayon-Lycra Knit, and Cotton Jersey.

Length

Will you wear the maxi with flats or heels? If with heels, do you want only the toes to show or the ankles too (think comfort in walking). And you want to preserve the length when you stitch the hem. Rikki23 made sure the length was where she wanted it by serging the skirt end, folding it up and stitching it again.

Skirt

Make sure the skirt is roomy enough for walking. truebias will allow for a fuller skirt the next time she sews a maxi.
