This is a good machine for any beginning seamstress. I used this machine to learn on and have since sewed many costumes and quilt pieces on it.
The machine is very easy to use and is pretty reliable. I love the needle up/down feature.

My first impression of the machine was that it looked sort of 'old school' as far as the dials on the front and top were concerned. However, that translates to ease in selection of the stitches. Also the upper tension is really easy to adjust and I've already sewn a bit on it.
