I developed this technique after being inspired by an ancient sewing VHS I had seen years ago.
This is not the typical way to apply mitered binding to a project but it is sooo cool. You will get perfect results and won't have to hand sew the mitered corners shut.

Here are some great tips I collected and posted about in my guest blog.
There are video tutorials for making custom sized buttonholes, placing them on your pattern, cutting them open successfully etc. This post also includes tips for sewing on 2-hole buttons and 4-hole buttons by machine.
