How did you learn to sew?
I'm originally a knitter, but tried my hand at several quilts in my twenties, using a few quilting pattern books. Three years ago, after seeing so many blog posts from people who knit AND sew, I decided to give it a try. I took a free beginner's sewing class with the San Diego Continuing Education program. I have never looked back!

What aspect of sewing do you find most challenging?
Pushing past my comfort zone to try new techniques. It is easy for me to stick to my fun and fast knit projects. I have worked hard to try to change this using all of the inspiration I get from other sewing projects that I see online. Because of this, I have learned to make full bust alterations, fly-front zippers, among other techniques that I'm proud of learning.

Which sewing book do you refer to most often?
While I have a substantial book collection, since I love collecting books, I think I pull out "The New Complete Guide to Sewing" by Reader's Digest the most. Coming in a close second and third would be Power Sewing by Sandra Betzina and The Sewing Bible by Ruth Singer.

What are your sewing goals for this year
SWAP - Sewing With A Purpose! I am a new mother as of November 27th. I want to make sure I use my sewing time wisely by making beautiful clothes that both fit AND flatter my figure. I also want to go for quality over quantity.

What are you sewing right now?
I just finished sewing two cowl neck tops using Vogue 8634 and have cut the pattern out for anothger top using New Look 6816.

Pick your favorite pattern
That is a really tough one to answer. But if I had to pick one, its New Look 6735

I actually love all of the separates that this pattern offers.

What you love most about PatternReview?
I love going to the reviews before making a pattern up. It helps me pick the right size, make adjustments to the problem pieces, or even avoid patterns that just won't work for my frame or skill set.
Any other hobbies? I knit and quilt. I use to keep a salt water fish tank for fifteen years as well.

Your profession, where do you live?
I run a medical supply company in San Diego, California that creates placebo training products for nurses, pharmacy technicians, and emts.

Welcome aboard Susan! As a busy mom in enjoy both sewing and knitting, which i taught myself a few years ago to pass the time at afterschool practices. Although knitting can be transported easily, i love the instant gratification of completing a sewing project and wearing it in to work on Monday. Reach out to you new sewing community anytime. Also, what pattern is that you are wearing in this wonderful photo?

Thanks everyone! I was so excited to be interviewed. I am glad it was worth reading. lol. (Christinasbookshelf) My company makes injection simulators and fake vials such as fake insulin so nurses in training can practice with look-alike products without the risk of getting injected with out dated, real medicine.

Congrats on the baby and the featured member! I learned to knit 1.5 years ago, after sewing since I was a kid, and I enjoy being able to take my knitting with me everywhere--doesn't work so well with sewing. I would like to know what placebo training products are now.
