Embellishment Contest WinnersBy Deepika on 9/29/09 1:42 PM
Embellishment Contest Winners
What is the best part about making your own garments? It's the ability to add a personal touch. And to change that one pattern a thousand different ways by surface embellishments. And that's what this contest is all about. To taking things from BLAH to WOW! Let us meet the winners, shall we?

First Prize: kittykate For Self Drafted Figure Skating Dress

kittykate made this leotard for a friend's daugther from her own pattern. She recommends Kwik Sew 2678 if you want to try this look. In her review, she explains how she was able to achieve that expensive RTW skating dress look by following a few simple tricks. She cut out maple leaves from holographic lycra which was fused with Heat 'n Bond earlier. The leaves were then ironed on carefully to the stretch velvet using a teflon sheet. And because every figure skating dress needs rhinestones she finished off with a few scattered around the leaves artistically!

Last week at the expo I had the chance to look at this cute dress in person and I can honestly say it's every bit as cute as it looks in the photos!

Second Prize: Marie-Claude For Jalie 2806 - Scoopneck Tops

With 24 reviews of this popular pattern, Marie wanted hers to stand out. She knew she loved the top, the fit and the style. But she wanted to make it a little different from others, so she added a hem band and added an iron-on flocked design in complimentary colors on her solid top. It gave the top that pizzaz she was looking for!
