Lingerie Contest WinnersBy Deepika on 3/4/10 6:05 PM
The challenge for this contest was to sew some lingerie. What is lingerie, you ask? Well, for the purposes of this contest, lingerie is defined as intimate apparel for women, and this could include clothing worn as a base layer or nightwear. Contestants could enter individual items or sets, and more than one entry per person was allowed.

41 participants poured their hearts into this challenge and the results show it!

Some of the questions voters in this contest were asked to consider were: does the lingerie style match the fabric chosen and is the lingerie attractive. I'm sure you'll agree that our contest winners meet these requirements!

First Prize: squirrellypoo For Racy lacy lingerie set [Reader's Votes]

squirrellypoo made what she calls her "Racy lacy lingerie set", which consists of a matching bra, camisole, and thong panty, all sewn up in a stretch silver floral lycra knit with stretch black lace. The materials came from a kit purchased from Kantje Boord in Amersterdam. She added more "bits" to create what she had in mind.

She made the bra using KwikSew 3300, which she'd sewn twice before. She made some modifications to create a better fit, including interfacing the bottom cup to stop it from stretching and reducing the width out of the mesh in the back to make it fit the pre-made hooks and eyes. The piece doesn't fit exactly as she had hoped, but she's still happy with it and thinks it will look fine in low lighting. Or, as she says, "Boom chickawocka boom boom, etc."

She created the camisole by tracing an RTW knit vest (tank top for Americans). She was able to use the last of her stretch lace as a border but really had to play with the material to get the effect that she wanted.

Her thong panty is originally from the January 2008 KnipMode magazine, but she has made it so many times that it definitely qualifies as a TNT!

The voters agreed that this ensemble all adds up to a great success!
Second Prize: raymondmom For McCall's 5534 Easy Endless Options [Random Drawing]

raymondmom made this entry in a kind of double contest. She not only entered the Lingerie Contest, but she and her friend also challenged themselves to make Valentine's gifts for one another using only materials from their stash.

She wanted to create something feminine and sensuous, but not sheer. Her friend's favorite color is pink, so she chose pink minkee with the textured surface facing inside. She used McCall's 5534 Easy Endless Options the pattern, but altered it to make it more feminine, omitting the hood, pockets and self-ruffles. Instead she added lots of ribbon from her stash, using 4 layers on the sleeves, 3 around the hem and 2 for the front and neckline. She cut and sewed and serged and top-stitched ribbon and organza together to create the effect she wanted and topped it all off with silk flowers.

She liked working with the pattern, which she called "easy and adaptable". The result? Her friend received a very nice gift and a second-prize winner!
