10/26 Update:
I decided to knock-off a pair of pants that I saw at a CAbi show. They were trouser jeans with single welt pockets in the front and flap pockets in the back. They were looser than jeans but made from a thinner denim material. I used the Jalie 2561 pattern and removed the usual pockets
