Update:
In order to make them more cosy, I lined the gloves with some scraps of Polartec Powerdry. I still think they are not ideal, and the fleecy outer will probably get undesirably wet in the rain. I have found some Polartec Windbloc with a hard face and fleece back, which I may try for either an
