Book Index/Chapter headings
The index is wonderful. It has a clear listing of categories and sub-categories, and each one has a nice thumbnail picture of each technique so you have a visual reference. The chapter headings are a two page spread with a lovely couture garment on the catwalk, and a paragraph explaining the the type/uses of the techniques in that chapter.
PaperBack or HardBound?
Hardbound with a ring binding, which I love. The book lays flat if you want to reference something but are working with both hands.
Does this book have clear illustrations or photographs?
Yes, great photos of each technique step by step, and a finished product.
Would you recommend this book as a MUST HAVE?
Yes, I love this book. It was relatively cheap for how useful it is. It has a lot of lovely couture techniques for bindings and seam finishes, particularly in difficult fabrics like silk chiffon. It also has lots of great info on underpinnings to give fabric a good drape or make it easier to work with. There is a great section of luxury fabrics - what they are, how to identify them, and how to work with each one. This book is not just for creating fancy dress, it has lots of great info on techniques that you can use to make every day clothing, such as skirts, blouses and jackets extra special. I especially like that it tells why to do things a certain way, not just how. I will be using this book often.
