PaperBack or HardBound?
Does this book have clear illustrations or photographs?
Yes, both illustrations and photographs help the author make her points.
Would you recommend this book as a MUST HAVE?
Yes, if you are plus-sized, have one plus-sized body part (e.g., large breasts relative to the rest of your body, etc.), or sew for someone who does, I think this book is very helpful.
As a 5'2" pear-shaped, plus-sized woman, I almost always have to alter at least the bottom half of a pattern in order to begin the fitting process! I also have an unusually small waist relative to my hips, so I really needed help. This book was extremely helpful to me. Some books, while good, do not go far enough in explaining the whys of alterations. This book has explanations about why you make an adjustment, how the big 3-4 pattern companies size their patterns, and more.
I purchased the book once I got past the idea that I, indeed, am plus-sized. This was difficult for me because I wasn't for most of my life, but I got tired of wearing clothes that were ill-fitting and decided to make clothes that fit regardless of my size. It has made all the difference in how I feel about how I look. Just because you are plus-sized, it doesn't mean you have to wear clothes that don't fit well; wearing well-fitting clothes makes you look better and feel better too!
