What Janey99 likes about this machine large bed What Janey99 does not like about this machine I had to return the machine. Stitch was atrocious, and I bought it without trying it out. They offered me an 820 in exchange. I declined.
The floor model had such a bad stitch, the dealer sent it back, too!
I was in NYC and saw their sample stitch of this machine and it was awful, too.
I am so disappointed. There is also a high pitched screechy noise, that is totally annoying, worse than the bad stitch. It drove me insane.
Now, what to do? i had my heart set on this machine, with Bernina's fantastic reputation. |

What more exactly do you like about the machine that made you recommend it since you have definite dislikes that would NOT give the 750 a positive recommendation. Review needs more information for the positive review you gave if you are recommending the machine - or, it's a do not recommend. Since you just recently joined, I highly recommend you take a few days to read other sm reviews from other PR members that will help you. Edited: 12/23/12: I see you edited your recommendation to no. Good, but still review other sm reviews (and other PR threads). Welcome to PR.

Most Bernina dealers test sew machines before they sell them. If I understand you correctly, you returned the machine, so when you go shopping for a new machine, consider taking samples of the fabrics and threads you use, and test drive the machines' abilities to perform the tasks you need it to do.

Not sure why you recommended this. Sounds like more issues and not much to say besides "long bed".

From what I'm hearing, Bernina has stopped shipping this new 7 series until all these issues have been resolved, which they are estimating to be March or April of next year. I think they are doing the right thing. If you can wait that long, then I'm sure all of the issues will be resolved. Many of us are waiting......

Go with Janome!

It looks like you corrected your review as I see you do NOT recommend this machine. I want to thank you for letting us know that this machine is one to stay away from for right now. Some think the issues can be eventually resolved but I am not so sure. Changing the hook system seems to be a drastic change. Again thank you for taking the time to give us all a heads up.

For the price you paid, what a nightmare. I quite like my 430, and my 125 but I doubt I will be buying another Bernina. Is your interest in sewing, or embroidery?

Not really a review - too bad your experiences were not good. Welcome to PR, and consider using the forum about Sewing Machines to share your experiences.

That is unfortunate. You odviously got a lemon. Been there with other brands of machines and it is a total pain. My 750 had a bit of a tension issue but it was taken care of right away. It is sewing perfectly at this point. I will be doing a lot of sewing in the next two days. Also no high pitched noises, very quiet in fact. Too bad your dealer did not take the machine out of the box and have you all try it out before sending you home with it! Did your dealer refund your money?

I agree, the dealer should have made sure the machine was working properly prior to selling it. My dealer sews in each and every machine they get and it has to meet their requirements or it's shipped back. I've had a lemon from another brand and that is not fun when you get one. Please don't write off Bernina! They make an excellent sewing machine. The 750 at my dealers sewed perfectly with no high pitched screechy noise. It was very quiet and the straight stitch was perfect. Take your fabrics and test drive a machine before you buy it. Then, make sure you test your machine before you take it home.

I too want to welcome you to PR. Sorry your experience with Bernina was so poor. I think you should give this machine another try but I also recommend you wait as Bernina is working to fix these issues. I suppose your purchase without testing was a valuable lesson. It also sounds like your dealer is not very good for allowing you to take the machine before a tech could fix the tension/stitch issues. I also want to encourage you to join our board or at least read the Bernina Love thread. There is a lot of information about the 7 Series machine.

Sorry that this was not the machine for you. I have a 750QE with embroidery unit. I have not found anything yet I don't like - except I don't have enough sewing time. The new B9 bobbin is wonderful. I have not had any issues with sewing or embroidery with my new 750. Unfortuately your dealer did you a disservice. Dealer makes all the difference. Good luck in finding your forever machine.

I don't think the machine is making a screeching noise when actually sewing. My 550QE makes a high-pitched noise when it's on. It's not loud and obvious but to us sound- sensitive types, it can seem to be.

I said it before and i will say it again - there i a real problem with the stitch quality of the new bernina 7 series. like you i was so disappointed because i had my heart set on the 780. I tested the machine and knew there was an issue. It is sad because I had one dealer trying to still get me to buy the machine even though she saw and agreed that the stitch quality was not good. I went to 2 different dealers with the same bad results. I did send bernina an email about my results but I never got a response back. I have both the janome horizon 7700 and the pfaff creative sensation and they are both wonderful machines. If you don't care about embroidery I would highly recommend the Janome horizon 7700.

I'm sorry you got one that isn't what you were expecting but you should follow up with your dealership and ask them to have it checked over if need be to solve whatever problem is causing your stitch issues. Perhaps it just needs a tweak on the bobbin and top tension? I have the 750 and have had nothing buy joyous sewing from it. The stitch quality is lovely. I bought the second one that was sold in my city and have not been at all disappointed in it. It sews anything I have thrown at it and the decorative stitches are so neat and precisely sewn, its wonderful. Follow up with your machine and hopefully you can get it either fixed or replaced to give you a Bernina that sews as it should. Oh and BTW I have a bunch of friends and some students as well with the 7 series, a range with the 710 and one girl with the 780, as well as lots of the 750 owners- and none of them are even slightly less than over the moon happy. Sounds like you got unlucky.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I find it interesting that Bernina is holding up sales on this. I really want the quality of a Bernina, but I want that large bed, so I will just wait. I never thought I would need to even try out this machine, being it is a Bernina.

Janey, I agree with you! Something is terribly wrong when each machine has to be scrutinized for quality control. For the dealer to check the machine that it was not damaged in shipping is certainly what needs to be done. But faulty manufacturing is quite another matter. I think that is up to the manufacturer to send out quality product. I am so very sorry for you and all that have been trapped in this awful situation. I am grieved.

I had the EXACT same experience with my 750QE, right down to being offered an 820 as an exchange! Amazing! The high frequency noise was the dealbreaker for me, because it is an unfixable part of how the machine was designed. Not everyone can hear the sound because of how high pitched it is, but if you can, it's like trying to sew with a mosquito buzzing around your ear! The stitch quality was a mess too, but I do believe that they will eventually figure out how to fix that. Bottom line though: no one should have to deal with rounds of repairs on a brand new machine-- these 750s were just not up to the Bernina name standard. I cut my losses and purchased a Brother DreamWeaver (VQ3000) and couldn't be happier.

I am so sorry you have had a bad experience with the Bernina 750 QE. I bought this machine in November 2012. It was awesome compared to my trusty 1031. The tension was awful and I found the top tension had to be adjusted. Lots of fiddling with different threads and needles for FMQ. Now the tension seems to have settled down and is much more balanced as it has run in. I love it but am still getting to know it. I know Bernina's reputation and a good local dealership will sort any problems I encounter. I am signing up for free lessons as well. Using the dual feed 57D foot I have found my piecing has perfect points. The more I use it the more I get to know it. Huge adjustment from a mechanical machine. My only gripe is that for the price Bernina should have included the stylus. All the promo videos show use of the stylus and it took me 30 minutes of searching through the packing thinking I had overlooked it only to find it was an optional extra.
