Discuss Sewing Machines with PR members Sewing Machine Forum | | What Mikgirl likes about this machine For X'mas I bought so many embroidered personalized bags for family and friends, and kept thinking "I can make this!"
So for X'mas gift I got this Brother PE500.
I love everything about this machine!
Everything is computerized so it's very simple to operate.
I've had few problems after few uses but I think it was because I got too comfortable and didn't set things up carefully.
What Mikgirl does not like about this machine It's not that I don't like this machine...
It's that I love it so much now that I want a better one already!!
I didn't know how I'd like embroidery so I got the most affordable one...
But I tell you, if you like sewing and crafting, you'll like embroidering, so if you can get a better one...well, I wouldn't say better one, but the one with more functions that you can afford.
Now I wish I got a bigger hoop... This one is 4x4, and here're some nice deigns that don't come in smaller size.
I also wish I had the USB option.
This one comes with USB cable, but you need to connect to PC everytime you want to use new design.
Luckily I have oneof those small notebook laptop, but what if someone only has the PC console? It'd be a hassle to drag your embroidery machine to the PC just to download designs.
I guess there're options to avoid this, by getting a cartridge or something, but I need to look it up.
One thing to recommend...
When you buy your machine, especially online, get other supplies like thread, stabilizer, etc...
I ordered the thread few days I got the machine, so I couldn't play with my new toy until I go my supplies.

Glad you like it and welcome to the world of embroidery! You can get a repositioning hoop for your brother that will let you sew out a larger design without re-hooping. Will still sew out a 4.4 but you can then add a name or something with just sliding the hoop;-) These are great little machines, I have the SE-350 and use it a lot for class, etc. Enjoy!!!

I have had this machine for about a week now and love it as well! It was very easy to set up and I'm putting designs on everthing that isn't nailed down - LOL. My only problem was learning to use that needle threader, but the instructions are right there in the machine.

It's a good starter. If you get tired of it sell it and get one with a bigger embroidery area,

If it uses memory cards you can use a tranfer box with your PC to transfer designs to a blank memory card. I do it that way because I only have a desktop PC upstairs and my sewing area is downstairs. I have the Amazing Designs Amazing Box Max, and that works for me!
