Discuss Sewing Machines with PR members Sewing Machine Forum | | What Katey likes about this machine Lots of stitches and easy to navigate between them. Large open sewing area for quilting. Machine sews smoothly, well lit working area. Easy to manipulate fabric under presser foot, although sometimes too easy. Came with lots of presser feet options - including leather/vinyl foot. Bonus bag full of additional presser feet, bobbins and other bits that are helpful. Manual is easy to follow, and operating the machine is easy to figure out so far. Easy-to-use needle threader is the best of the lot I've tried. Nice stitches - well balanced. Press one button to baste, another to seam. As for other Vikings I've had, you select the fabric you are sewing on, then the desired stitch (seam) and it will set itself to sew that combination. Awesome. Like the backstitch feature - just have to get use to how it takes a few stitches before stopping. This machine is the same as the Viking Saphhire 855, just renamed for their anniversary. UPDATE: tried the automatic buttonhole feature and it is great. The buttonholes are fantastic- stitching is even and they are predictably perfect each time. Also tried the stretch stitches and find that, while it stitches knits very well, for some odd reason the stitch is executed on the left side of the sewing area. This can not be set to the middle, which is odd. What Katey does not like about this machine Plastic casing and parts makes the machine vibrate when sewing and feels less stable on the table (hey . . that rhymes!). Although the dealer said that it can sew easily over thick fabrics, I have found that it will hesitate when sewing layers of ultra suede. I still don't like the automatic presser foot levers rather than manual foot lever controls. Why do the engineers who design these machines force me to change how I have sewn for 40 years? But I'm adjusting to it. Inserting new needle a bit tricky- hard to find the slot for the needle without bending down to look for it! | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. You cannot get this or most other machine that have that here from AMAZON - it just appears. which is confusing, and not good. THANKS for this review! I know how you feel but I am sure we will get used to all the new stuff....I love all that new stuff, as it turns out and you will soon get used to it and find it good. I am surprised it vibrates. Check out the table for sturdiness because my Viking from just a few years ago sits there like a tank and does not vibrate yet it is no heavier than your machine. Happy sewing!

I agree, that Amazon link drove me nuts for a while. Worse when I wrote my own review and found it stuck in there- no way to remove it. I also dislike pushing a button to move the presser foot. Mine gives me the option so I can use my hand. Is there absolutely no hand lifter on yours? I am confused enough that by the companies putting the manual lifters inside and to the right. I am so used the coming in from the left and back with my left hand- it's a motor skill burnt into my brain- my right hand has enough to do without leaving the fabric to push a button or reach for the manual lever. I also discovered that a sturdy table really changes things. The heavier it is or if it's on a more solid floor, the less machine vibration. I have used a TV tray on tile (in a pinch) and not had problems while on carpet it was really vibrating. But then with another machine it didn't vibrate on either floor. Nearly all vibrate on those white collapsible 8 ft craft tables. So it depends. Nice review. Thanks.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I did not select "Amazon" as the seller - it is a default setting I can not alter. Try Ebay instead! ;-)

I agree with Muffet about the vibrating. I have a Sapphire 835 and LOVE it. I have used it on a couple of different tables and it has never vibrated or shook while I was sewing. It stays put. My machine is the model down from yours...before it was the Tribute it was the Sapphire 855, so they should weigh the same. Good luck with the vibration/shaking. I can't stand that! Also...did you get this on sale? I swear I paid that much for my machine and thought the Tribute was more? Maybe prices have dropped?
