What Julkane likes about this machine The IDT is so convenient to use and able to be used for many feet and the decorative stitches.
I am in love with the auto presser lift.
The low bobbin sensor is the best I have hed on any machine.
For FMQ there is a Senormatic free-motion mode and a Spring foot free motion mode.
Thread snips
Needle up/Needle Down
Programmable tie off and Immediate tie off - it is so easy to change the settings for these features
Definitely like the snap on presser plate as I clean my bobbin area frequently. What Julkane does not like about this machine The Needle threader can be hit or miss; not the best I have used.
Did not come with the extended table; an extra purchase.
Manual is way too brief and simplified. |

I'm wondering about the weight of this machine. It's not am embroidery machine, I assume, but am thinking if it has enough of the PCP features it might make a good class machine for those of us used to the PCP. Also wondering if they take the same feet. That is a great price for a machine with the auto presser foot feature.

It is 18 1/4 inch wide by 11 1/2 inches high. I actually bought this machine for a class machine and it fits in my traveling tote. I assume the feet are interchangeable with the PCP.

It is possible to change the width/density of the buttonholes? Cutting space?

Soolip, I have not used the buttonhole features but from the manual I can see that the stitch length can be changed using manual or sensormatic buttonholes. The width of the stitch can be changed with the manual buttonhole, I do believe. No where do I see that the slit width can be changed but maybe someone else that has the QE4 that is more familiar with it may know.

Waffled between this and another machine a long time. I ended up with a Babylock Symphony and love it, but wish I could have this one, too. I loved this one but in the end the Babylock had more features and came with the table. Such a close call. I'm glad you love yours. I'll get one someday, I suspect, since mine is not class sized. Thanks for the info.

I have a Pfaff 7530 which works fine, but It doesn't have a long harp space. I do have a Brother Duetta with a harp space of 8.2 inches. Would almost 2 extra inches in the harp space make enough of a reason to buy this machine since I do make baby quilts, but I have no wish to make anything larger. What is you opinion about this?

Harriet, obviously many people can do a baby quilt on even a small harp. It all depends on what your priorities are with your machines. I happen to think the big harp space and the IDT, along with the auto presser lift, just makes the job easier.

I am thinking of buying this machine, could you give me an idea of what you paid and what model it is? I am not sure how old the one I am looking at is, but it's for sale for $2399.99

The Quilt Expression 4.0 is selling in my area for around $1900 now because I think the QE4.2 is due out soon.

Wow $500 is a big difference, I think it must be overpriced and he is asking too much, maybe I should wait for the 4.2 to come out

Why don't you ask him for a better price? I always try to get the price down by negotiation when buying a machine.

I was at my dealer today and March is National Quilting Month, so there is a $150 mail in rebate on this machine. My dealer told me that if I bought one now, and if I decide I like the new 4.4 better, I could get what I paid for 4.0 towards the newer model. But it has to be within a certain time frame to get full credit. $150 mailin rebate ends March 31, 2013 on the quilting machines by Pfaff.

she does not really inform me how she finds it to sew with. we know what the machine is suppose to do but how well does it sew.

If the threader is not working consistently, I have found if you use your finger to push from behind the hook mechanism, it helps push the hook thru the needle, so it will catch the thread. Without giving the hook a little assistance, it doesn't always protrude far enough thru the needle to properly catch the thread.

I have been using this machine for abou 5 months now and really like it. I have had no service issues thus far. I love the free motion quilting modes and the auto presser lift. I have made 4 quilts, over 10 quilted runners and table toppers and many small gift items. I bought this as my back up machine but it has become my primary at this point. I have become very familiar with the programmable fields by now so I utilize many more of its functions. My needle threader issue has gone away and I think it was related to a slight misalignment of the wire. I bought a few extra feet; the 1/4 inch foot, echo quilting foot, SID and adjustable seam guide foot. At a class that I teach, I use the PCP but honestly do not see much difference between the sewing on the PCP and the QE4.
