I absolutely love my machine! Once I figured out I was threading the wrong looper first, it serged like a dream and still does. I only paid $200 for it as it was used, but only for less than 15 hours. It came in it's original box with 22 spools of thread and a fully printed out manual, too.

I think the manual is very good. Between it and the instruction book, I've found the answers to all of my questions.

The automatic tension is pretty accurate but depending on the fabric and/or thread I'm using, sometimes it does need some tweaking, but I would expect that.

The cover stitch is amazing, by the way.

Have you had any trouble with this machine? Please elaborate.
The only trouble I've had has been user error - I didn't realize the upper looper was the one in the back. Once I learned that, it's been an excellent machine
Do you do regular maintenance on this machine? How?
I clean it with a brush, q-tips and machine oil. I was told to never use can air as that can drive thread and dirt into the machine.

I bought this machine 2 months ago for $300 new. My older serger doesn't have a cover stitch. The Singer is just a bit more challenging to thread because I've been threading the older one for 20 years. The directions that came with it are easy to follow, and I love the new stitches I have.

I'm so glad to hear that this SINGER has a good tract record. I have the prior version of this machine, the 57. I haven't used it much, now I want to go see all the things it can do!
