Tell us about your first impression when you used this machine. I used to own a Bernette Funlock 004D and unfortunately thought I really did not need a serger anymore because I quilt! Give my head a shake!! I bought this machine online through Janome Shop at Home.(available in Canada). The price was right. It looked nice (oh my nerves) and Janome has a good reputation...unfortunately I didnot test it when I picked it up. The problem would have probably been discovered & fixed then...

Was the machine manual sufficient?Ambiguous to say the least. I know the English/French & Spanish versions...why they don't have a separate section or 3 different manuals is beyond well the illustrations for threading are not adequate.. So I guess, no the manual is not sufficient.
I have since discovered a very helpful Janome Serger Workbook online on website. Click on Learning Centre then Pro 4DX and you can download the workbook.
Did you buy any accessories? Do you use them?Yes. I bought the following because they did not include them with the machine, however they mention them in instructions...spool netting x4, a brush for cleaning, looper threader, and finally tweezers that actually work.

Is this your primary machine?Primary serger yes, but I do own a few (alright I confess a plethora) of sewing machines!

Did you take any classes specifically for this machine? No but I have ordered a Serger Manual
And recently downloaded a workbook from the Learning Centre. I also downloaded a fun serger storage/clipping bag off the USA website. I am trying to get acquainted with my serger. I also made her a functional yet decorative cover from quilting fabric scraps to make her feel more at home...(after all the mean things I said about her)
Was this a gift/pre-owned/garage sale etc?Retail therapy!

How often do you use it?Project basis. I made 8 pillow cases, and 1 t shirt quilt since purchasing.
I also made her a cover and a storage/clipping sack as a peace offering after all the nasty things I've said about her!
Would you recommend this machine to others? With reservations...please see troubleshooting...

Have you had any trouble with this machine? Please elaborate. Yes unfortunately I have. The machine is currently being serviced because of looper tension issues. This machine is giving me tension alright. I brought it in today because no matter what tension setting I used in either my upper or lower loopers, the stitch would not align properly. Of course I had trouble shooted prior to taking it in, rethreaded a few times, put new needles in, and was relieved when the service tech rethreaded the machine & he had problems too...
*Update * Service tech had to fiddle with upper looper tension disc...Fixed...relieved it wasnot user error, therefore no serger Walk Of Shame!
The lower looper is awkward to thread but not impossible. Just make sure you have a well lit room or sit by a sunny window while threading. I now realize why they have an easy threading version online because they wouldn't sell very many machines if they showed the long version. In the instruction manual it took 10 pages...LOL
Because of tension issues I have not attempted to roll hem. The upper knife deactivates easily as does the needle plate setting...
I knew buying this machine I would take a step backward from my Funlock...but alas buyer's remorse! I can hear you now, tut tutting and shaking your heads "should have bought a Babylock, Bernina, Juki etc". Lol!!
Do you do regular maintenance on this machine? How?Yes, oiling using a good quality sewing machine oil, brushing AND vacuuming., as well a yearly spa treatment Ta boot!
