Review:
Tell us about your first impression when you used this machine.
Love it! I started looking for a spare for when my 401 is serviced and stumbled across this little machine.

This machine only does a straight stitch but does well in every fabric I have tried. (minor tension adjustments needed)

I prefer to use it for my thinner fabrics since my other machine is protesting them at the moment. Since I have purchased it I find I reach for it more often than I would have thought. It uses the same cord and foot peddle as my 401 so when I want to change machines I just unplug and switch it out. I don't have room for both to be set up at the same time. Sometimes I have it set up for weeks. It really depends on what I am working on.

While it uses the same feet there are some differences in attachments for the 301 as compared to the 401 and the 500 series. It uses a different buttonhole attachment and thinner bobbins. My walking foot will work with modification but then would not work on my 401. I know there are more but haven't tried anything else personally.

Was the machine manual sufficient?
Yes also a lot of info online.
Did you buy any accessories? Do you use them?
No, but only because it uses the same feet as my 401 and I have more than what I need. It did come with a zig zag attachment that I haven't tried.
Is this your primary machine?
No
Did you take any classes specifically for this machine?
No
Was this a gift/pre-owned/garage sale etc?
Craigslist
How often do you use it?
Several times a week.
Would you recommend this machine to others?
Yes if you want a solid straight stich only machine. Also if you like vintage machines and find it fun to learn about and work on them. Getting servicing for these older machines has been a challenge in my area. Something to think about before buying.

If you don't want to deal with that end, then a more modern machine would probably be better for you.

Troubleshooting:
Have you had any trouble with this machine? Please elaborate.
Surprisingly nothing with this one. It had been sitting for a while and needing cleaning, and oiling but not much else. After that initial clean it has been running very well.
Do you do regular maintenance on this machine? How?
Regular cleaning and oiling.

I had a friend who had one of these on which I got to sew a project. It is a very sweet machine and I loved it! It was easy to use and thoroughly unintimidating. Thanks for giving this little gal a good home!
