Review: Tell us about your first impression when you used this machine.
I found this machine while looking for another 401. I discovered it made a very nice stitch and much easier to clean and work on since it doesn't have a built in cam stack. It made me rethink things a bit.
While I wouldn't trade my 401 for anything, I really like this machine. I plan to use it while my other machine gets serviced. It has a nice quality stitch and since I already have all the attachments and cams I can do everything I could do with my 401.
The only thing I don't like is the bobbin winder is on the top of the machine. Not a bad thing I just like it on the side better.
Internally they are very similar. I will have a chance to use it for a while and really get a feel for how different or similar it is.
Was the machine manual sufficient?
Good just like the other vintage singer manuals Did you buy any accessories? Do you use them?
No but only because I already own them. Is this your primary machine?
Will be soon, at least for a while. Did you take any classes specifically for this machine?
No Was this a gift/pre-owned/garage sale etc?
Owned by a collector. How often do you use it?
Not much at the moment Would you recommend this machine to others?
Yes if you want a vintage machine that is in this "family" I might have fallen in love with this machine just as much as the 401 if I only found this one first.
Troubleshooting: Have you had any trouble with this machine? Please elaborate.
Nothing. This machine was in extremely good condition. Light cleaning and oiling was all that was needed.
Do you do regular maintenance on this machine? How?
Regular cleaning and oiling is required for all vintage machines.
