What is this notion used for? men's shirt
Did you get your money's worth after the purchase? No , even though it is inexpensive & they look nice they do not functionally work well, & do not wash well
Is this notion easily available? Yes. I bought them online.
Would you recommend it to others? No. I ordered these buttons for use in making my husband's Hawaiian patterned fabric shirts. I notice right away that they catch on the thread of the buttonhole itself, are difficult to size for when making the buttonhole, & finally they do not hold up well in the washing machine. I ultimately ended up using them for a decoration on pockets only & had to replace them with store bought buttons from Hancock's. I would not recommend them for practical use. I think they can only be used for decorative use & on items that are not washed regularly.

Thanks for the head's up on this!!! Pretty but no good as buttons. Sorry you couldn't use them. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review. I have often wondered about coconut buttons. I know they are the authentic choice for Hawaiian shirts but I don't like their looks myself and tend to be sceptical. May I suggest corozo instead.

Interesting. I use coconut-shell buttons frequently on the shirts I make for dozens of my custom-shirt clients and on many shirts that I make for my husband. I use both the naturally textured and the polished ones. I wash my husband's shirts (made with both kinds-smooth and textured) frequently without any problems....and if my clients were having problems I'd surely hear about it, because my custom shirts are very expensive ;) Sizing the buttonholes isn't a problem for me either...however the coconut buttons I use are all the same size. I just looked at the several dozens of 25-count bags of coconut shell buttons that I have right here in my office...all are the same size, flat on the bottom...totally uniform in shape and size. So for me, my clients, and my husband..the ones I use hold up well during washing, are easy to use, and look good. One tip for textured coconut shell buttons...if the textured side is very "rough", I take 2 seconds and 'sand' them quickly with a nail-file--one swipe back, one forth.. Done and ready in seconds! But with the textured ones, I usually use the smoother matte side (the side that looks like dark un-sanded wood) "up". ...Just one professional shirt-maker's opinion :)

I have ordered Pam's coconut buttons and find them quite durable. I put one on a bag that sees a lot of use, and the others are on a pieced fleece jacket that I wash frequently. They are still looking great. If you still want to use coconut buttons, give Pam's a try at Fashion Sewing Supply. nayy--just a happy customer!

Thank you for the responses thus far. I am only reviewing the experience I had with buttons I purchased online... NOT bought from Pam ..... from another online store. ....

Would you share which online store you bought from so that those interested could avoid ordering from them?

I wouldn't mind listing that info but first want to say that the fabric & customer service was excellent! It is just the buttons that did not work for ME. ..... Hawiaanfabrics.com ........... I definitely will buy fabric from them again just not buttons.

Thank you so much for posting this! I've been eyeing this type of button, and thanks to you, I now know better!
