What is this notion used for?

Swatch Buddies is a organization system for keeping track of your stash. The price will vary depending on the size you buy (size equals the number of cards in each fan). Note that this is really designed for quilting, hence the labels are set up to identify "collections" and "designers", but of course nothing is stopping you from writing whatever you want, in my case fabric type and content.

Did you get your money's worth after the purchase?

Yes, although I haven't used it much yet. I think one thing that will be quite a lot of fun, and very helpful, is that you can take the ring apart, and then shuffle the cards around to get different ideas about fabric combinations. And you could have separate rings for, say, knits vs wovens.

I also think you could label the tags to identify storage areas; for example, I used plastic storage bins; if I number the bins and put the number on the tags, I'll know where to look for the fabric, instead of pulling the dang bins down one at a time to look for something.

Is this notion easily available? It can be purchased on Amazon and I have seen it in local quilt shops. And you can buy it directly from the company.

Would you recommend it to others? yes, I'd recommend it, I am having fun with it, and it will help me remember what I own and may want to use (instead of buying more...)

Some other thoughts... as I go through my stash to put these stash cards into use, I realized it might be helpful to organize them by weight; ie, shirt weights on one ring, bottom weights on another. Another thought: it is a bit of a pain to do this, but I just set up in front of a TV, grab my pinking shears, and go through the stash. Peeling the slick cover off the adhesive is hard at times; I use a stiletto, peel the back off first, apply to the fabric, and then peel off the front that is creased/perforated down the middle; that seems to be pretty easy.
