This top is part of my Mini Wardrobe 2014 contest collection "Overcoming Your Fears"

Pattern Description: Simple knit wardrobe pieces, includgin 2 skirts, a pair of pants, and a top with a v-neck line and bust gather detail... also raglan sleeves.

Pattern Sizing: 6-16 in one envelope. I wear typically a Small in RTW, pattern sizing suggests a 10 using upper chest measurement, I cut an 8 at the chest (with FBA), and a 14 at hips. In retrospect, I would next time add a little more width to the back.
In reading the reviews, I noticed this one href="" target="_blank">armholes large where she needed to make an adjustment to the back arm sleeve. Thank goodness I didn't do this-- forgetting altogether that my arms are HUGE! In the end, they fit fine without any adjusting.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I guess. There is only a line drawing, and it doesn't show a person at all. The top turned out to be very cute.

Were the instructions easy to follow? I have a GINORMOUS fear of sewing with knits, so this was a triumph, even with small mistakes. I owe that in part to the clear directions and tips on sewing with knits. If there was anything that gave me trouble, it would be the facing. Part of this is probably because of the FBA, which left me with a strange neck situation that had to be graded to a curve.

I would have probably just cut a new facing, but there wasn't enough fabric, so I just made it work. Honestly, one tiny bit at the should is a little but wonky... but with this busy print, it isn't horribly noticeable and I'll correct this on my next go-round.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the waist area, but I made it a little longer, and it's a wee tight in the caboose for jeans. I think the adjustment in the front went well. I'm liking the gather at the bust, to give the top a little shape and not make the front look like giant uni-boob.

Fabric Used:
I'd call it a lycra knit in a "what-the-heck-was-I-thinking" pattern. I think it was probably clearance from Joann's or Hancock's. I love the colors, but the pattern is a bit wild! Turned out to be a good choice for a beginning knit sewer, though-- those wild strokes hide a lot of "better-next-time" detail.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
There are no darts on this pattern, so I wasn't exactly sure how to go about a FBA. Should I just add width? In the end, I sort of just pretended there was a dart, and in the process, discovered the coolest little "bust" marking on the pattern. Have those always been there? Makes a perfect cutting line for those who need the adjustment.

If you make a FBA and add length to the front... take note! You will need to add that length to the amount you gather in the center. (For example, if you lengthen the front by 1", add 1/2" of elastic and 1" of gathered fabric to the front gather. I had to go back and regather the front when I noticed this problem.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will make this again. I want to get it just right! It has the ability to perhaps become a TNT. (Especially since it sews up quickly and under 1 yard.) Please note that for ME, very quickly is a day.... due to my paranoia about sewing with knits.

Perfect top for my mini back-to-school wardrobe. I'm forcing myself to try new things. This teacher needs to keep learning!

Wow! Great job. I hope you continue to sew on knits. Once you learn how it's not scary :)
