Pattern Description: Boatneck raglan tee. Finished length is at the mid to lower hip level.

Pattern Sizing:4-30. I made a size 8.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? The style, yes. The fit, no! Style Arc describes it as slightly fitted and it definitely was not.

Were the instructions easy to follow?I didn't need to use them. Note though that when they recommend "gel tape" for the neckline they mean clear elastic.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: the neckline is beautiful, even if it is too wide out of the envelope (my bra straps showed).

Dislikes: even though I ordered my normal size 8 it was just too small. It bunched up into my armpits and was very uncomfortable to wear. My photo doesn't do a great job of showing it, but in person it looks painted on. The neckline was also so wide that my bra straps showed.

Fabric Used: Modal rayon/lycra jersey from Fabric Mart. It has 100% stretch crosswise and about 80% lengthwise.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

  • Added 5" to the hips

  • 3/4" broad back adjustment

  • Added 1.25" width to the sleeves at the elbow/upper arm

  • Added 1" length between bust and waist

  • Lengthened the sleeves 1"

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I won't be sewing this again unless I grade/buy a size up because it is just too small. I didn't even bother hemming it and topstitching the neckline because it was obviously not going to fit. Afterward I made up a similar Burda top (2-2010-112) and the fit was much more comfortable. I do like the depth of the SA neckline, so I plan on modifying the Burda pattern so that it is as deep as the Style Arc top but the width is somewhere between the originally drafted width and the SA pattern.

I hesitate to recommend it to others because it came out so tight - and since my other size 8 Style Arc patterns fit well I know that it isn't a matter of me gaining 10 pounds in the past week! If you do decide to go with this pattern consider sizing up at least one size.

Conclusion: Blog post here.

I like the drawings of StyleArc's patterns, but I think they have some sizing issues - sorry this didn't work for you!

I made this pattern as well and agree with the fit. In theory this should have been a great pattern but is way too tight for the sizing shown. Knowing from another review that the neck was wide, I made what I thought were the proper adjustments. However, not being so adept at raglan sleeves, didn't do such a great job and ended up putting little tucks at the shoulder seams and hiding with buttons to make it look deliberate. This looked OK in the end. However, it is tight under the arms so I added little gussets to help - this was moderately successful. Since I really like the fabric I purchased for this top, I wear it but am on the fence as to whether or not to sew again.
