LOL - I can relate - my daughter is 3-1/2, and I badly wanted to make this for her, but she wants to be a princess instead, and having been through something similar to this last year, I resisted. Also, I remember my ds refusing to wear his superman costume until two weeks after Halloween. Now I try to make costumes early so that they have time to get used to them. Did you try having a freind wear the costume? Sometimes seeing your things on another 2-year-old makes them very attractive! Beautiful costume!

Oh My Gosh...sooooo Cute! My daughter is 12 now. She used to love wearing dresses...but now she wouldn't be caught dead in one. Maybe yours will want to wear then later..ha!

Your dress is absolutely beautiful! I'm lucky that my three year old still wears what I put on him. This costume is definately worth saving.

I had the same problem last year when I made a "Glenda the Good Witch" costume for my 2 year old. She took one look at that pink satin and tulle and ran the other way. We ended up doing a 2 week "de-sensitization" program that consisted of try-ons of increasing duration followed by m&m's. (I didn't mind bribing her- isn't that what a Halloween costume is for?)

LOL at Nancy's comment - mine is 10 and believe me it only gets worse. The bribes get more expensive, though. When she was 3 she did not care, took a couple years break from sewing, and WOW was I shocked at what she will not wear. Beautiful costume, and I am happy to see the update that she is wearing it.

I've got a grown kid, and my advice to those of you who have made this gorgeous little outfit (beautiful, Jennifer!), or anything like it, is to wrap it in acid-free paper and store it until the kid is grown. Trust me: She will be blown away as an adult (and, if she spurned the costume as a child, maybe even a little guilty, which is salutary).

Just goes to show -- sometimes if you hold on to something long enough they will change their mind . . . But, this is why I don't make much for my dd (age 6), my heart has been broken too many times. My 2 yo still doesn't have opinions on clothing, so I mostly sew for him.

Keep the dress around. Probably on a scorching hot day next summer she will decide she must wear this. My DD is now almost 16 but she has had a sense about clothes since she was 3. But,then they are our daughters & why do we sew?

Jennifer, my DD who is now 16, wore her 'princess' dresses every day, all day, it seems until she was about 6 or 7. So did her best friend Emily. Your review reminded me of sewing for them. I sometimes didn't have time to hem all the skirt layers, and you know, it never mattered. I once tried to design the Little Mermaid purple bra, green fins, and the dress she wore on land to meet good old prince charming. I cut out three of each (DD, Emily and my neice). Finally had to give some to my best friend's Mom to finish, but the girls wore these to shreds, until their legs had outgrown the fins by about a foot. Keep on going, the dress is gorgeous, and you will never regret a minute of any of this!
