Robert Downey, Jr. -- ROFLOLPIMP!!!! It's definitely the fabric ... if it really is 1970s vintage I wouldn't expect it to be as nicely behaved as a younger varieity knit. Toss it in the washer/dryer and see if that helps it come back somewhate.

No, throw the fabric away and get something decent to work with so you won't be so frustrated. I think the top will work with a more stable knit from this decade. Lovely picture of your lovely self, lol.

I have been having my own "learning curve" with knits for the past month. I have done some copies of RTW that were dismal failures, I have ripped out more seams and necklines than I care to admit. I had a similar experience with knit fabric growing on a top I made. A few suggestions that have helped me--using a nice stretchy foldover decorative elastic bindng really helps pull back a stretched out armhole and neckline. Also adding a sleeve that is reinforced with clear elastic tape on the seam might not look bad. My knit failures have been used for a variety of purposes. One that I finished is a comfy night shirt. The other two hopeless tops are now mops that I swish around with my foot to shine up the floors! But I really have gotten better with knits. The first thing I do on all my knit tops is a double stay stitch at the neckline and armhole. Try slinky or cotton lycra, they are very flattering and I think give good results.

Oh, I agree with the others, it's the fabric, don't give up! The style looks very nice on you. Try a current knit and I'll bet you'll have fabulous results!

You are funny; cute picture. It could easily be the fabric's fault. Get yourself a decent, slightly stiff knit and try again. Really.

It's the 30 yo knit!! Knits have really improved! Great sense of humor.

Oh what a hilarious review. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. The sad clown painting says it all.

I love your painting! My first knits were stretch velvet, cause discount fabric in the mission always had tons, and the fit was forgiving of my lack of FBA knowingness. I think the neck looks different, in a good way, the armhole you can sew up more. And shrink it to a faretheewell as per Debbies suggestion. Knits that don't snap back anger the Knit Gods. They have been cast out of Knit Heaven.

This will look great on you with a good knit, and come up with the armsyce a little. I thoroughly enjoy your reviews!

Don't flog yourself, it's the knit for sure. Usually, if you don't do something with it within the first 10 years, chances are that you won't in the next 20 either, or shouldn't :-)..

So sorry that didn't work out for you, but it sure provided the rest of us with a good chuckle from your clever and funny review. Thanks! Keep trying with those knits.

Great review -- treat that shirt to a hot bath! Under a jacket on a cold day in the mountains you'll love it!

I always have to bring in the shoulders and take some depth out of the armscye on Kwik Sew patterns, try it again, don't give up! Sometimes I use a teflon foot on knits, and that helps with the stretching, too. I love your reviews, always fun to read

Your reviews are so much fun to read. I love the look on your face. Heck if the fabric is that old it probably does sag. After all, we do the same thing when we get old.

Yep, I say blame the fabric too. I have problem with knits too, mostly involving necklnes and hems that stretch out of shape. Wish I knew why- if I find out I'll let you know. Funny review, though...

For this pattern to work for me, I have to pull the front armsceye in a bit with clear elastic, and I cut the mock-T a little shorter around (1/2"?") and made it 3/4" taller. But once it's 'fixed', it's a great pattern. And I don't remember any knits from the 70's that were truly worth sewing, but then I didn't have access to very high-quality stuff back then... ;)
