I've just copied your sewing process notes to notepad, having recently purchased this pattern. Five years later, your review is still helping! I've learned from experience that HP instructions and diagrams cannot be trusted, yet somehow their patterns still land in my mailbox...

I am about to attempt this pattern and I really appreciate you sharing the instructions that you worked out for yourself.

Thanks so much for your instructions - they made all the difference! I couldn't picture the process until I read your review. My dress came out quite well, but only with the benefit of your experience. Many thanks!!!

What a great review! I made this pattern, too, and found the whole process very frustrating, although I really liked the dress. Of course, the misspellings in the instructions bothered me as much as the flat-out wrong order, but I'm trying to get over that!

The dress looks fab on you. Good review. This pattern is on my wish list.

Very, very cute on you. All your work paid off - you've got a really great dress (and the capacity to make many more, now that you've got it fitted perfectly!) Your choice of trim sets it off beautifully.

This dress is perfect for you! Great job picking out a flattering style and making a beautiful dress.

Well, this is beautiful on your. I have this pattern and I agree the directions alone have put me off from making it. I admire your perseverence. I was well worth it. Thanks for some inspiration

I love your dress and do hope to make this someday. I will be sure to revisit your review for your construction ideas. Thanks!

Yeah, Nancy, if BWOF translated-from-German instructions are better (and they ARE), something is wrong! Trudy needs an editor who sews. :-)

The dress really does look good on you! Hopefully it's also a happy chick dress.

It looks great on you, well worth the travail. However, I have to agree with you about the instructions. I am currently making the Classix Nouveau Razor Sharp Pants and I have made 3 muslins just for the front zip and facing. I have been sewing for over 40 years and I can hand tailor a jacket, but follow Trudy's instruction? I had never done a fly front without a front waistband or contour waist before, and I finally gave up and found instructions in BWOF for a pair of pants that have a faced waist fly front. If BWOF has better instructions which lets not forget are translated from the German, well something is defintely wrong and it isn't lack of experience on the part any of us! I commend you for your reworking of the instructions, making this a second time should be a shap.

Your dress looks really nice. From a distance, I thought it was made from lightweight denim! Really like the trim!

I like your summer version of this pattern, it looks good in the lighter fabrics. I have tried a hot patterns and noticed some of the same from bust and sleeve adjustments as you , and your fixes are quite helpful. Thank you for the plain English instructions! They sure like that flat sleeve insertion, and I almost never use it. I like fitting my tops before Iinsert sleeves, and it seems jsut as easy with the side seam sewn! Great review!

Thanks for the review - your frustration will help someone else! Congrats for ending up with a beautiful dress (great colors).

Hi Julia, I really enjoyed reading this review. I consider myself an advanced sewer since I own a drapery workroom, (maybe when it comes to garments I am an intermediate) I think it goes without saying that if you are going to draft and sell patterns for a living they should be clear and informative. I can tell that you are an exceptionally intelligent person and I say thank you for figuring out those directions. I think about directions a lot and I think the majority of sewers love to read them and think them through. My business partner is the one of the best sewers on the planet, and she is an avid direction reader! You go girl!

Great looking dress! Difficult to get obviously but in the end you got it.

Thanks for the review, very helpful to have comments from a less experienced sewer than Gigi. I have this pattern on my to buy list, if you still have it available send me a pm.

Thank you for the great review, it is very helpful. I'm so glad your dress turned out beautiful dispite the frustration. Well done!

The instructions say "feel the fear, and do it anyway" but I think it's more like "feel the frustration." Glad it didn't stop you - it's a great dress, and worth the effort.

Wow - persistence paid off. This looks great. sorry you had so many trouble. I'm not ready for Hot Patterns - there seems to be too many problems, yet. I'm sure many items will be perfected in the very near future.

very nice! This one's stiiiiill on my "to do" pile, but yours is really instpirational. (Of course, yours is also about ten sizes smaller than mine, so that helps!) Beautiful dress and great review, I hope you post up pictures of the next one with the higher contrast bands.

Great payoff on the effort! I've been looking at this style again, thanks to A Dress A Day, and while I'm not sure I want to try it yet, I really think you've got a winner here. Thanks for the detailed review!

It came out great! I am surprised by how slim the sleeves are, compared to the illustration. I've just traced this pattern and plan to get started with my muslin Monday. Thanks for the inspiring review!
