Please don't give up. If the pattern does work for you then make the pattern fit what will work for you. I have done that so many times. what you can change to suit you is what you should do. I'm sure that if you make this one more time, with changes you think are necessary, you will be pleasantly surprised.

I TOTALLY sympathize with you! After several attempts with this pattern, I have decided that the shape is just wrong...the bag is too long and narrow to ever work. I even tried making one with a shorter body, but eventually I just gave up. I know a lot of people have waxed rhapsodic over Amy Butler's patterns, but I have grown to hate them. She seems to design with no sense of the practical, and her instructions are the worst. On a conciliatory note, I do like some of her fabrics.

Thanks Mary and Penny. I went ahead and gave this pattern to someone who is a better seamstress than I. The instructions were good, but like Penny said, the bag is not practical - too long, too narrow and unless made with HEAVY interfacing, won't hold its shape. The handles were just a pain (the shorter handles). I don't want to try this pattern again. I will try the Velma bag pattern by Amy Butler. Thanks both for your feedback. :)

I revised this pattern using ribbon for the handle and it works well. I also have used a heavy interfacing just on one side of the purse ,and for the bottom I went to Lowe's and bought pieces of ash wood (perfect width and easy to cut) and used that for the bottom. For fall I am using tapestry's and velvets and find these don't need overly stiff interfacing. I am not a very experienced sewer but I keep tryng different ways to make things work. Good Luck try again
