Lovely purse, I like how the solid band of the zipper is a design element.

CarolynD - yes, the zipper *is* a design element. The first time I made the bag I was a bit surprised at how much of the zipper was left showing. It does mean that you have to be careful with your zipper color and style choice - it wasn't easy to find a zipper to go with this print. That said, you don't need a 12" zipper - anything bigger than 8" should work fine, so that gives you some leeway if the choices at your local fabric store are limited.
