I was afraid of the sleeve preference happening, which is why I asked how he liked the other one, because men are just plain used to dropped shoulders. This does look like a good pattern for my teenaged son, though, since he really likes fitted shirts. ;-) You probably don't have to do "major" alterations to the KS pattern though ... just morph its armholes/ sleeves onto this one and then do the sloped shoulder adjustment. 7/14/06 10:54 PM

Elona said... Bobbi Carr, who used to do the Burda videos, said that the neck measurement determines the shoulder size. That's probably what that was all about.
However, the tee looks terrific on your guy. I wonder what exactly he sees when he looks at set-in sleeves? In general, they make shoulders look more square, and that is usually desirable.
Anyhow, it does look great on him. If pressed, I think my guy would say that he prefers longer short sleeves. I wonder if that's a factor with this pattern. 7/15/06 0:48 AM

Re: neck measurement. If I had chosen the size from the neck measurement, it would have put him at a 42--perfect for the upper front of the shirt, but too small for his broad back and full tummy.
Debbie-That's a good idea to combine the patterns. I'd probably make some minor changes to the KS sleeve/armscye. It sounds much better than starting from scratch at another pattern.
JenSews--The pattern isn't clear on whether it is ribbing or self-fabric. I used ribbing, but shortened it quite a bit because I only had 8 inches of ribbing--it looks just right. I imagine the pattern piece is for self-fabric. I chose the ribbing because my fabric didn't seem stretchy enough to be used as ribbing (plus I had some matching ribbing in my stash). 7/15/06 1:04 AM

Here's my favorite part: I made the men's small for myself in a navy wool jersey and LOVE it. No full bust adjustment and fits so nicely. The sleeves are short for a men's shirt so theyh fit me perfect! I like this t-shirt better than any women's shirt I have because I'm past the age of wearing tight form fitting shirts but don't want something I'm swimming in. The wool jersey makes a dressy looking top I can wear with shirts, slacks, or just jeans if I want--try the shirt for yourself I'll bet you'll like it! 7/15/06 10:33 AM

It appears the upper chest is ever so slightly too wide right there where the sleeves attach, maybe 3-4" down from neck. I also think a bit of a higher sleevecap would make it look a lot better. The neckline looks great as well as the fit in the rest of the shirt. You're determined to make a perfect T, so thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. 7/15/06 4:38 PM
