said... Actually Teri, I think if you don't size down like I did and use a drapey fabric it would be quite flattering. There is plenty of fabric in the skirt for camouflage with most of the fullness at CF and CF. Because there is no side seam the skirt falls nicely in that area. I would be careful not to overfit the waist area though. 9/20/02 3:43 PM
said... I just finished my first dress. It won't be my last. I love it! I made the long sleeve version out of a soft rayon with large splashes of autumn colors. It's simply marvelous! I was very pleased with the fit. The only alterations were to lengthen it everywhere, (I'm 5'9"), but that's expected. Otherwise the measurements given on the pattern were true to the cooresponding size. The V of the hem is not as pronounced in the rayon and I will angle it a bit more with subsequent dresses. I also found that it is easier to join the skirt and bodice in 2 pieces. 11/4/02 7:46 PM
Julia Graham said... Gigi, when you say "stitching the skirt/bodice seam in two steps", do you mean sewing skirt to bodice from CB to CF, stopping and adjusting, and then sewing from CF to CB on the other side? Or do you mean something else that I can't picture? Thanks! 7/9/03 11:34 PM
Gigi Louis said... Yes, Julia, that's exactly what I mean. It's so much easier to get a sharp point that way. 7/9/03 11:47 PM
SJ Kurtz said... I finally sewed this yesterday, and want to thank Gigi for recommending stretch velvet. This works up great in rayon and is DIVINE in the stretch velvet. I didn't really need the first rayon I made up (out of stash I no longer cared for) so I tried cutting the hem straight on the grain to emphasize the vee hem. It's great but it does show more of the wrong side of the fabric than I care for (could be a showcase for a contrast bias inside finish that could be echoed at the neckline). Even bringing up and in the neckline still makes a BIG neckline (mostly on the sides and back) so don't be shy about making it smaller. 10/26/03 11:14 AM

Gigi Louis said... No, Katharine, since this is a cut-on sleeve, it required no other alteration. 10/26/03 1:23 PM
Janet D said... Gigi, this dress is beautiful and the color is equally beautiful on you. Although the neckline is overly low, do you think I could raise it an inch or so? I have a problem with low necklines as my shoulders tend to slope down instead of being more straight across. This tends to make scoop necklines too wide for me. I hate constantly having to pull on the neckline so my bra straps won't show. Also, for someone who hasn't alot of experience working with knits, would you recommend a woven fabric first? Thanks for sharing your fabulous clothes with us! 10/27/03 2:05 AM

Gigi Louis said... Janet, this style is so simple to make - I doubt you would have a problem with either a knit or a woven. You can easily redraw the neckline - just be sure you can get it over your head. You might also try lingerie strap guards - an easy way to keep a neckline put. 10/27/03 8:37 AM
Doris W. in TN said... <> Gigi, I just made a 'muslin' of this dress in the long sleeves, and know exactly what you mean. I used a wal-mart cheap microfiber for drape. The dress fits me great but I'm going back to raise the sleeve cap in this Long Sleeve version. It's too shallow for a 'semi-fitted' dress bodice. Also, I'm going to have to create a CB seam in the bodice put a zipper there. I could barely get it on and off with my broad shoulders. I thought the side seam was going to rip. 2/28/04 8:30 PM

Also, I was not clear about why the bodice was difficult to get into...it's the waist was too small. I used a Medium throughout and had 3"ease at the waist once it was on. Thought I'd never get it off me. 2/28/04 8:48 PM
