I understand your problem with a big piece of heavy twill fabric. But there is a simple and important reason for cotton in aprons: fire resistance. Tencel, being essentially rayon, isn't so great in that department, but at least it's not fuzzy :-). Still, you might want to experiment with lighter cottons, like the ones sold for quilters which can have a lot of body without much weight.

Very cute apron. I can see why you anticipate requests from other family members, because it is so unique, functional and cute.
