Very nice! Could you tell me what the purpose is for the two little ties? Just decoration? or do you tie the straps together? I'm going to teach my niece to sew a purse using this pattern and I found the directions rather confusing.

Sweetsong- the knot at the top is to tie the straps together. I thought this was the easiest pattern I've used so far and it was my first sewing project so I think it would be great to teach your niece.
