PVA said... Thanks for giving us a great review of this pattern. Your shirt looks beautifully made! The sleeves look to be just right & I'm sure the length is the right proportion, too. I used the same method to increase the upper arm of the 3/4 sleeve of the Sandra Betzina V8151. I'm very pleased with the result! 1/28/07 1:02 AM
Pennysews said... Mary, your blouse is beautiful. I think the description is misleading. The pattern says "casually wide blouse." It's looks fitted to me, both in the picture and on you. About the collar pieces not matching (assuming I understand you correctly). The upper collar and under collar should not be the same dimensions. This way, the upper collar will roll to the underside so the seams won't show. You have to ease in the difference. Anyway, it turned out great--I love the colors.

fuzzygalore said... Very nice blouse, thanks for reminding me I have this pattern :-). I second pennysews' advice about how the upper collar is -supposed- to be larger, so the finished product lays flat. But I'd add a caution about skipping bust enlargement 'because there is enough room'. If you do that, you're making a blouse that has less ease in the bust than the original style intends, which is why the result looks fitted instead of 'casually loose'. It's fine if that's what you intend, but keep in mind what you're doing when you make that decision... In this case, it was probably the right one to make though - isn't this a quilting batik, a very crisp fabric? A loose style in that would look ankward, a loose shirt kind of needs a drapier fabric, so you did well to make it more fitted here. 1/28/07 5:00 AM
Debbie Cook said... Very nice blouse, Mary, and VH review! ;-) I also agree that the collar looks fine from here. BTW, I've decided that when Burda instructs say "baste" that they mean whatever is your preferred method, including pin-basting. 1/28/07 5:17 AM

It's interesting about the front facing.I used this method when sewing little shirts for my DS many years ago, using a long ago OOP Australian range of 'self-drafting' books by Enid Gilchrist. I have all of my mother's copies of children's and women's clothing patterns and treasure them. The patterns were both economical, easy to draw-up and sew, and were stylish for their time. The children's clothes were often classics.WHEN I have GC I'll use some of them again. 1/28/07 8:16 PM
