I think you have taught the pattern how to behave! For the zipper, you might take a look at Diane E's review of this pattern . She includes some photos about the zipper that might be helpful. These are still on my (neverending) "to sew" list.

You did a good job on the fit. If you don't think this pattern is intended for a pear-shape, what shape do you think it is for? Most pants IMO are for a pear and I'm an apple. I've had this pattern in my stash for a Looong time!
