I bought this pattern for DD, planning to make the same changes that you did. Thanks for perfecting the method for me! If your results are any indication, this will soon be her favorite dress pattern. Very nice.

Nice style, I can see why you wanted the fabric. Perfect type of fabric to make a "wearable muslin", and I hope you get more wear from it than you expect.
