I think your top looks very nice. I had the same experience, thinking that the pattern was going to be big in the bust/hips and finding out it actually fit according to the measurements in those areas. I think KS is very close to ready-to-wear in its sizing.

In KS patterns I always do the L-XL thing too and it usually works out great. But in this pattern after making up several tweeked wadders, I finally cut the pattern down to an XS and made a cute PJ top for my size 3 niece to go with the Burda one-seams for PJs. I hope you have better luck.

I think this pattern is one that has surprised many of us: we have to use our "real" size in this one. But it's a very versatile pattern - sleeveless for those of us who don't go sleeveless. It's worth trying again, this time using your honest size. Mini warned us about that in her review, and I thank her for that!
