Mary, that nightgown looks darling. I wish your DD would let us see her face - maybe next time. Would she let you make a mock closure on the bottom of the sleeves? You could just fold the fabric at at the side of the front (where a shirt cuff buttonhole would be), make a buttonhole through both layers, then add a button to the bottom of the sleeve a few inches from the buttonhole. That way she doesn't have to put up with elastic, and the sleeves would be held up above her hands and out of the oatmeal.
