| Happy Super Bowl Sunday, 2013:
Six years after sewing this S.D. Charger "fan" shirt, I still wear it when the occasion arises, even if my team did not make it.
This pattern originally came out in 2001. I would not mind sewing another shirt from this pattern.
Update SB Sunday 2010
Day when Chargers played against the Jets
I thought I wear something "spirited" this Sunday for the Charger-Jet games. This is one of my favorite "team"outfits.
This is one of my "favorite" shirt patterns. After another slight modification, I plan to make more with "stashed" fabric.
Original photo
**** UPDATE*****
This is my second shirt with this pattern. It's amazing that a change of fabric changes the entire mood!
Modifications
* I shortened the sleeves because I did not have enough fabric left from my previous project, McCall's 5278 shawl collar jacket
* I omitted interfacing to reduce the bulk while working with this decorator type fabric.

Original Review
Footbal fan shirt
I wanted a basic, fuss-free shirt. I wish I had sewn this six years earlier!
This could be an updated version of the 8 looks, 1 easy pattern for a nice basic shirt
Pattern Description:
Out of print from 2001: Shirts have front darts and front button closure with tie (neck) options and sleeve options. I sewed View A, except I omitted the neck tie.
Pattern Sizing:
Size 8-10-12. I sewed a 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, with the exception that the collar flared out a little than what was pictured.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes! The illustrations were helpful and the directions were sufficient.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the fact that the shirt was really easy to put together (sewing the shoulder seams, side seams, attaching the interfaced collar, attaching the interfaced front facings, hemming the bottom, and adding the buttonholes and buttons). This seems like a "no frills" top.
Fabric Used:
From WalMart for really cheap, a San Diego Chargers football team woven cotton fabric. I intended to use this for future gifts for my ultimate football fans. Just for fun I thought I would use this fabric before using more expensive ones. Maybe I could wear this for future Charger games, Chargers day, sports day, etc. Maybe this would be an incentive to really "like" football more (?).
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I lengthened the shirt by another 1/2".
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes. There might be current patterns that might be identical to this out of print McCall's.
Conclusion
I like the high armscye and the very flattering fit. A fuss free pattern that I would highly recommend for beginners.

HeathersMom, cute shirt! You may have inspired me in time for the A's game that we have tickets for! Thanks.

What, something not vintage :-)? Seriously, this is fine, but I think you look better in something a bit curvier. Think you can find an equally simple pattern with a bit of side seam shape or something??

I agree, a very flattering fit. I also think adding some side curves into this pattern could work really well for you.

What a great Game Day shirt!

The pattern companies seem to renew their good basic patterns every now and again; something like this is likely to reappear, if it hasn't already. It looks like you attained a superb fit. Sew it again!

Great job on matching the patterns in front.

Everyone at Chargers games will want to know where you got this shirt. A budding cottage industry???

Thanks!

You're rigt. This is a great basic pattern that you get many looks out of. It looks like you got a great fit, so now you're all set to make a wardrobe of summer tops!

Man, this shirt REALLY looks nice on you. It just falls perfectly. Great job!

I own that potential update version. Even if you don't like football more, you can fool them with the shirt.

I LOVE the lime houndstooth. It makes this new version classy!
4/25/07 9:27 PM
Great shirts - they do look so different.
4/25/07 10:53 PM
Oh you lucky dog, you had enough of that houndstooth for two?!? Anyway, I love it too :-)..
4/26/07 3:30 AM
Cute shirt and it looks like you got a great fit.

Cute shirt. I just love the houndstooth check. I'd say the same about the football fan shirt, but unfortunately it's got the wrong team logo on it, especially for this Chief's fan! :o)

You are so incredibly prolific! How do you get so much sewing done? Very cute shirt, looks like a great TNT pattern as it fits so well. The green and white is very cheerful and Spring-y.

Cte top!! I'm more of a soccer fan myself...I like the soccer players better too!!

Cute! Go Chargers--much more flattering than the oversize Darren Sproles jersey that I'll be wearing. ;)
