Perhaps in a different fabric? I do like the length, you should show off your legs more. 5/31/07 5:43 PM

It is always helpful to see the garment on an actual body to better understand why it does or does not work for the reviewer's body type. This may be a first for a PR review -- yanking the garment out of the trash to review it! 5/31/07 6:32 PM
WilsonZooKeeper said... mendospot, I have a bit of a waistline but my tummy seems to hide it making me a visual rectangle even though my measurements aren't quite rectangular. My measurements are 41-33-43. The smallest spot on my body though is right below my bra which measures 32 inches. This causes waistlines to want to ride ride under my bra instead of at my waist curve. 5/31/07 6:44 PM

Some good news would be that some of those curves and bumps go completely away, the bad news would be that some just shrink. I've had to reaccess my wardrobe choices. You'll hit your stride again, just don't give up! 5/31/07 9:24 PM

I agree with the suggestion that short sleeves would lighten this up quite a bit and also a dark fabric would probably help (after we all told you to pick bright colors for your reunion! LOL). Thanks so much for the REAL photos (I'm guilty of not doing that myself). And yes, this length of skirt is fabulous for you! Do that part again for sure. 5/31/07 9:59 PM
ccris said... Well, I actually like the color and print. Did you try pushing up the sleeves to just below your elbow? I think the sleeve length is the problem. Then, you need a long necklace, doubled. Also, the dress is tailored and I think pumps would look better than strappy sandals (even tho I think they're very pretty). 5/31/07 11:06 PM

But it is one of those things - if you don't feel good in what you're wearing, it doesn't matter what others say. Very cute skirt length! 5/31/07 11:22 PM

Seeing a garment on a person with a similar body type is definitely what I look at in reviews of patterns I'm interested in sewing. Just seeing garments hanging limply on a hangar or on a dressform does not tell the reader how the dress fits the body. So I commend you for writing this review, even though you didn't like it on your body. Kudos to You!!! 6/1/07 8:15 AM

It is disappointing to literally have to throw your work away. Kudos for the post and don't be frugal - throw that fabric out! I used to try to sew every scrap, even the ugly stuff leftover stuff I got from a costume designer friend. I found that if I made a muslin out of something I hated, it really colored my feelings about the pattern. Thanks for the review. The "did not work for me" reviews are really illuminating. 6/1/07 10:52 AM

A great learning lesson, though for all of us.
All in all, it just looks too big for you. I've recently had a slew of bad sewing projects, so I encourage you to move on to the next project! It's good to get these wadders out of our brains and onto cloth so we know for sure what works and what doesn't. Otherwise, if you are like me, you'll just keep wasting time thinking about how it will look. Now you know! 6/1/07 11:56 AM

I think the dress looks better on you than YOU do, but I know what you mean: If you don't like it, you certainly won't wear it. It is a good length on you though! I appreciate you showing us the picture of it on you, because it really IS quite different than hanging on a dress form. I really have to FORCE myself to do that -- ha! I didn't at first, but everybody kept asking for pictures of it ON, so I thought, well, all right already! :o)) Great review that is very helpful to me as I contemplate making a dress, myself. 6/5/07 1:59 PM
