Welcome! Did you cut the apron out on the bias? The drawing on the pattern envelope looks like they intended for you to layout the apron on the bias (45 degree angle) to me. You may already know that... but you said you were a beginner, so I thought I'd ask. :)

The instructions didn't say anything about cutting on the bias. I am vaguely familiar with the concept but I don't think I missed that! Thanks to both of you for the encouragement!

Welcome to PR! Ohh.. I don't like bias tape either. I prefer just to do a narrow rolled hem. But yours came out very nice and the tape gives a nice contrast.
