Noile said... Thanks for your comments, wvsher, Rose Manor and CSM--Carla. Rose, I stuffed every pocket and went off to an afternoon and evening in the city, purse-less. Much to my surprise, I hardly noticed the weight at all. It was much easier to wear the vest than it is to manage any of my usual (small) shoulder bags.
With a purse or bag, the weight's concentrated in one place, usually on one of my shoulders. With the vest, it's spread evenly over my torso -- that's probably why the weight is less noticeable (even though what I'm carrying is exactly the same).
One thing I was careful to do is to sew the pockets below my breasts, with smaller pockets just beneath them. That's not directly related to your question about the weight, Rose, but it definitely helped to keep the vest from feeling too bulky when stuffed.
What I love best is being able to just reach into a pocket, instead of having to balance a purse with one hand while trying to wrangle something out of it with the other. The vest is always supported, so getting things in and out of pockets is quick and easy. 3/26/08 9:51 AM
