| Update (1/19/12):
My older son has been steadily outgrowing his PJs - they're looking like waders on him. So I've been slowly making new PJs to replace them, hopefully with growth room! The penguin PJs are size M with an inch added to the length of the pants. I found this flannel at JAF on Black Friday, and I immediately snatched it up for these PJs.
And a friend's son had a birthday at New Year's. I wasn't with it enough to make his gift in advance, but I'm only a few week's late, so that's not too bad, right? ;) The baseball PJs are made from an old twin sheet that I got a few years ago. I can't remember if I got it via freecycle or the thrift store, but either way, it's been waiting for at least 2-3 years to become PJs. I figured that baseball PJs would be good for a little boy. These are size S, with two inches added to the length of the pants. That boy is all legs!
Update (11/13/11):
Striped PJ pants
These are both size S, and they are made from a thrifted sheet. They are to go into our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. I cut the pieces single layer to make sure the grainlines were on the stripes, and I added a drawstring, because I don't know what ages/sizes the boys will be who get our boxes. The age range for our boxes is 5-9, and these will fit my 8.5 year old son with a bit of growth room, so I figured that would be good for anyone in that age range. The drawstring can tighten the waist, and the legs can be rolled up for a smaller child. Because I don't know to what country the boxes will be sent, I used a cotton sheet instead of flannel.
Update (1/25/11):
The larger pair of pants in the review photo are size XS (the other pair is KS SFT). This is a belated Christmas present for a friend's older son, as he has worn previous PJ pants out until they are effectively waders. This flannel was in stash from a Black Friday sale 3 years ago.
Original review photo
Pattern Description:
Boys' pajamas. Pullover shirt has V-neckline finished with facing and patch pocket. Pants have stitched elastic waist with drawstring. View A has long sleeves and full length pants. View B has short sleeves and shorts.
I made the View B shirt only.
Pattern Sizing:
Child sizes XS (4-5) to XL (12-14). I made the XS.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, very much so.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. I had no problems.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I had originally bought this pattern in an attempt to find a new side-seam pants pattern, but I wanted to try out the PJ shirt as well. I usually find more woven prints for DS than knit, so this worked well. And the pullover style is quick and easy to make.
Fabric Used:
A fun beach flannel that was in my stash. It is kind of silly but makes good PJs.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I omitted the interfacing in the neck facing and top of the pocket. I will definitely try it when I use a cotton print for PJs, but I didn't really think it was necessary with flannel.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes to both.
Conclusion:
A nice easy PJ pattern for boys.
