Ha! I don't think the fault is yours. Firstly, on the back of the pattern it only gives hip measurements for A - B, which are the straight and slight A line skirts - and they all seem like reasonable amounts of ease for the straight skirt - for a 42 hip, the width for the hip is 45.5. Pattern says that A - D are worn one inch below the hip. I am making E - the semi circle skirt - NOT something that should be worn below the waist at all - and the waistband is 38" long! I hadn't bothered trying on the skirt yet and it is enormous! I shall have to take in the side seam and create a seam on the other side to balance the circular waist and hem. not so easy to to well - I'm relly not happy about it.

You did great! I think the flounce is so pretty. And like Kaitlinnegan, the sizing is easier to get right as you sew more and looking at the finished garment measurements on the back of patterns helps determine if you should go with a different size than what your measurements coincide with. Just keep plugging along - you're doing so terrific!

Very pretty skirt! The sizing does get easier as you get more experienced - it helps to look at finished garment measurements, as the amount of ease in the pattern can vary a lot! Always better a little too big than too small, though. Nice work!
