Perhaps you forgot to preshrink the cotton before sewing the pants, your hem depth didn't match the instructions, or you cut out the pants on the hem fold line?

I did wash the fabric before sewing...I do think I followed the instructions about hem depths and cutting out the pattern. One part of the problem was certainly that I measured my nephew a couple of months ago, and he was a wiggly thing, so my measurements for him were probably not long enough. It is actually possible that I folded the waist casing down too wide. It is also possible that I didn't measure my final project inseam properly. I'm not sure...

Shoiley, next time ask your sister to measure a pair that fits, that's easier than taking measurements. My 2yo has a meltdown if I come after him with a tape measure, so my measurements are always off. I think I have this pattern, I might use it for fall. The pants look great and the 7/8 length is popular for boys.

great job! and what a great match of kid to pattern. he seems thrilled with them. i think the short leg issue might have nothing to do with sewer or pattern. there's a lot of variability in kids, and maybe he's a long legged one.

So cute! If you sew for your nephew regularly, he'd be happy, and you'd have a good sense of his measurements.

Shoiley, the length on toddler clothes can be tough to get 'just right.' My Dsis twins are one taller than average and the other average, but short legged! But you're right that kids clothes are a great thing to practice on cause little ones aren't too picky yet!
