Meredith P said... Very nice dancewear! I have this pattern, now I'm inspired to make it. About the "smiles"--for next time, I would probably add just a bit more width at the front inseam only (top of the thigh). This adds to the crotch *length*, so you'll want to keep an eye on that. 8/8/03 2:54 PM

Karla Kizer said... Mary, I have yet to make a pair of snug-fitting pants that did not have the "smiles". I think that to eliminate them, you'd have to add a fair amount of ease to the thigh; then the fit wouldn't look right, because stretch fabrics need a closer fit to look right. In other words, you can't win. I'm learning to ignore the "smiles" when I sew for DD. She pays lots of $$$ for RTW pants that have bigger smiles.... I have concluded that if you have anything other than toothpick-sized thighs, snug pants are going to produce a few ripples. As I told DD: deal with it! 8/23/03 11:23 AM
SouthernStitch said... Karla, I added a little bit to the front inseam at the crotch, tapering to nothing pretty quickly, and it did the trick for the other pants. Just taper quick and don't add more than 1/2" or so. 8/25/03 12:12 PM
Gigi Louis said... Cute outfit! I agree with Karla re. the smiles. I have full front thighs as well - my figure as a child was much like your daughter's. In trousers the smiles are easy to get rid of by adding to the front inseam but it just changes the fit/style of workout pants too much so I don't do it. 8/25/03 5:14 PM
