I've made this pattern 3 times now, and the back piece is supposed to be twice as big as the front piece. The side seams of the skirt are actually further towards center front rather than right on the side. This dress has a very full skirt. I like your alteration. You should give the full skirt a try, I found it to be very flattering.

I was just looking at this pattern as it seems I have some fabric that is screaming for it. Thanks for the heads up on the oversized back piece. It looks lovely on you. I think the whole bra conundrum is what keeps me from wearing halter type garments.
