"armsythe (sp?)" It's armscye. The general explanation is that it's from Scottish dialect referring to an arm's eye, that is, a hole in the garment into which you put the sleeve. I'm not sure I buy it all the way, suspecting that there is a link to the word "scythe," referring to cutting things with scissors, but what the heck. 1/13/09 8:41 PM
