Beautiful top! For a moment, from the pattern photo, I thought your top was backless! Probably much more practical with a back on it. :) It looks great.

Very pretty top and the red is luscious. There really is not a right or wrong direction for the nap as long as all pattern pieces go in the same direction. While I prefer the smooth feel to having the nap facing down, I usually prefer the color that velvet takes on with the nap is facing up ~ your top has a bit of glow to it that it would not have if the nap were in the other direction.
