One thing I noticed: I couldn't get the picture of the blouse BEFORE the gigantic dart to come up (but luckily I had seen the picture earlier). I'm not sure if that's my PC acting up AGAIN, or if it's a bad link. At any rate, this top looks GREAT on you, and all of your fitting changes made it happen. I LOVE that bulk-free collar, too! :o) 3/7/09 9:12 PM

I love the 'very vintage' fabric and the careful matching you've done on the collar & cuffs, etc. I haven't had as much luck so far with Nancy Z's fitting method as you obviously have, but you've inspired me to get the book out and try again. Great work! 3/8/09 12:31 PM

This is asking a lot - you are already so kind to explain your alterations - but I just don't understand your descriptions of them and can't follow what it is you did from the pictures either ... and hoping to make this blouse because I have the pattern though I see from earlier reviews that others had problems too... If possible could you re-explain/show how you did your adjustments... Or I'll wait to see if you post a review if you make another blouse. Thanks ... I appreciate all your reviews. 3/8/09 10:55 PM
Christas said... Hi Persevering, I really do not feel that I have this pattern fitting properly yet. To me it is still too wide through the shoulders. The gigantic dart was really just an unconventional last ditch effort of trying to save the shirt in some way. After I saw how much ease was still in the blouse after alterations, I put on the blouse wrong side out and I then pinned the fabric to extend the original dart to end right at my apex. I sewed the very extended dart. I had put quite a bit of time in the alterations before even starting the blouse which were: narrowing the shoulders by 5/8 of an inch at the top of the shoulder where it meets the arm and re-drawing to the larger size at the underarm and on down to the hips by the pivot method. If you have the book "Fitting Finesse" you can see what I mean by pivoting to the size you need to keep the curve of the armhole. I also moved the dart up on the pattern piece by cutting a rectangle around it and moving it straight up one inch and then redrawing the side seams. I think the drafting is very different on this blouse. I am planning on making this blouse again while everything is still fresh in my brain. I will try to take more pictures of the process. Wish I could be more help.
Everyone, thanks so much for the nice comments! 3/8/09 11:20 PM

I like the picture with your hair in the wind. You look fabulous. You and other wonderful ladies are so generous sharing your experience!!! I've been educating myself from this PR site since discovering it, in the hopes of getting back into sewing when I can reorganize my life to make it possible (my daughter is getting married overseas next month etc. ...) I really like classic designs that don't date/are always fashionable, which is what I want to sew and which this pattern appears to be. Yet I have no knowledge/experience on fitting, so I really appreciate everything you (and others) share. THANK YOU! 3/14/09 12:33 PM

In view of some of your comments about this line of patterns, I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of Sandra's theory and development of them. (If you have access to older issues of VoguePatterns Magazine, they had an introductory article or two that go into greater detail.) But here's an address to her website page that explains in part what the differences are in her pattern line: http://sandrabetzina.com/sizing.htm. It will explain some of the problems you encountered and what to be aware of in future endeavors! :-) When you know what to expect, that's half the battle sometimes! 3/14/09 10:55 PM
