I like the idea about serging the waistband!

Gigi--I have this pattern but wish I had waited for the gore skirt. Have you ever madethe dropped waist view? Your skirt looks very nice.

I had to do a double take onyour picture! I saw the boots, assumed a person was wearing it then glanced up and saw the dressform.

TeeJay, I have not made the dropped waist view - I will probably try it, it's a cute style. You have to try the Gore Skirt!

That's a cute skirt, and I think you've pushed me over the edge to get the gore skirt. BTW, I really like your boots--I'd not want to cover those up, either.

Cute skirt to go with those fab boots, Gigi! I just bought some velour to make pants out of, but this looks much more appealing to me! Thanks for another great idea.

Cute skirt; it sounds like it took about 1/2 hour to make! And how nice of you to loan your new boots to your fitting friend. What a pal you are. ;-)

Gigi, I'm currently making the A-line from the Textile Studios skirt wardrobe. It sounds very similar or possibly the same as this one. I'm wondering--when you pin-fit, do you first stay-stitch the waistline? I'm wanting to pin-fit mine, but I'm worried I might stretch it out. But then I'm not sure how stay-stitching would affect the elastic waistband finish. (I'm using rayon crepe.) Great idea to use stretch velvet and I like the boots too.

Gigi, beautiful, as always! I like the waistband treatment and will try it, as well. Do you mind if I copy? I have some stretch velvet just crying out to be used!

I love this pattern, and most of Loes patterns, but I too found it very long, and I am 5'5". My solution was a three inch instead of a two inch hem. It gives the skirt a more finished look than her usual 3/8. I will have to try your waist treatment next time.

I love the way your waistband finish looks. I will have to try that.

Gigi, love your waistband treatment and your explanation of how do to it is very helpful. I will be using this technique on one or more of my projects in the near future! Thanks for some great info. As always, you have done a wonderful job.

This is a great looking skirt - I especially like the look of the waistline. I'm sure somewhere on this site there is a more detailed description of your technique but I haven't found it and would love to understand what exactly you do to get such a nice smooth look.

You're all too kind! :-) Betty, I do not staystich the waist since that would interfere with the stretch of the fabric and I wouldn't be able to get it over my hips. You only need to staystitch with a woven. Lizzy, I've simply removed all the excess ease in the waist/high hip area. Because the fabric stretches you don't need all that fabric. Then, when the elastic is sewn in there are no gathers. DianeE, please copy me - I'd be flattered! :-)

Beautiful skirt, Gigi. I like the idea of the zigzag long seams, since I've run into that w/ the serger.

Very nice skirt. I especially like the idea with serging elastic. You indicated that you tacked at side seams only. Do you have any problems with elastic staying down in front and back? Never tried this but I like the look.
